Macquarie Cloud Services (MCS) is set to modernise and strengthen the cloud infrastructure for Komatsu Australia, in a multi-year, multimillion-dollar partnership agreement.

The Japanese-owned manufacturer of heavy equipment engaged MCS to explore the design and build of a managed platform that would align to its strategic objectives over the next five years.

Komatsu initially engaged with MCS six months ago with a requirement to deliver a flexible environment for a hybrid cloud approach.

Macquarie Cloud Services head of private cloud Jonathan Staff said Komatsu is making the kind of infrastructure decisions that set the foundation for long-term innovation.

“This partnership is about modernising core systems so they can move faster, stay secure, and scale with confidence,” he said.

“Together, we’re building an environment that enables innovation, strengthens security, and keeps operations running at their best all on a sovereign, resilient cloud platform built to evolve with the business.”

MCS will make major enhancements to disaster recovery, data backup, system resilience and overall operational performance.

By transitioning to a secure, sovereign cloud environment hosted locally in Australia, Komatsu seeks to improve reliability across its core systems and ensuring stronger data protection and faster recovery capabilities.

The shift to a modern cloud platform will also provide the flexibility to scale and respond to evolving operational requirements, supporting Komatsu’s ambitions for growth and continued technology innovation.

Delivered by Macquarie’s Australian-based engineering and support teams, the upgraded environment meets strict compliance and data residency standards.

It will also enable the adoption of real-time analytics, edge computing and AI-driven solutions.

Beyond technology transformation, the program also serves as a vehicle for workforce development, enabling Komatsu’s teams to gain hands-on experience with modern cloud technologies.

This dual focus ensures Komatsu is not only upgrading systems, but also building the internal capabilities required to support and innovate on the new platforms.

Komatsu Australia CIO John Steele said MCS’s proven ability to deliver tailored hybrid cloud solutions aligns with its technology roadmap

“We’re investing in a cloud-first future that not only improves our resilience but strengthens our digital foundation and equips us to embrace advanced technologies as the business evolves,” he said.
