The partnership sees the body lend its expertise from its network of members to the organisation formerly known as Cyber Security Certification Australia, along with representatives from 15 other entities. DSI’s certification, SMB1001 covers five key areas: technology management, access management, backup and recovery, policies and processes and education and training. Joining the group of representatives on the steering committee is SMBiT CEO Wayne Small, bringing more than 25 years of SMB IT experience to the fore. “This is a key step toward securing the SMB sector from evolving cyber threats and we are excited to be a part of this future-focused initiative,” he said. “Our members understand the challenges SMBs face in implementing robust cyber security measures and they bring valuable, real-world expertise that will help shape a standard that is both accessible and effective. DSI co-founder Ryan Ko claimed the steering committee is “critical to the development of our dynamic cyber security certification standard and ensuring it is fit-for-purpose and relevant to the current and emerging threat landscape”. “SMBiT Professionals brings an invaluable perspective and deep knowledge of the cyber security threats and challenges facing SMBs in Australia. With SMBiT as part of the steering committee for the SMB1001 standard, DSI further strengthens our ability to set a high benchmark for cyber security in the SMB sector.”In addition to SMBiT, the committee also includes representatives from the Australian Signals Directorate, the Australian Digital Health Agency, Telstra, Deloitte, CyberCX, AusCERT, the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia, the Government of South Australia, the Insurance Council of Australia, McGrathNicol, the Pacific Cyber Security Operational Network, Sekuro, Willyama Services, BDO Australia and the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore. SMBiT’s addition to DSI’s steering committee comes months after managed cyber security platform Huntress partnered with CyberCert in August to provide SMB1001 certifications for service providers.
