Synnex Australia has opened its new $150 million headquarters and logistics facility in Oakleigh South, Melbourne.

The 44,000 square metre facility includes a 22,000-pallet capacity, a 35-metre-high, 4,283 square metre warehouse and an automated storage and retrieval system with over a kilometre of conveyors.

The location, which is a street over from its previous headquarters, was chosen back in 2020 to strengthen the distributor’s national logistics network and operates in tandem with its Sydney logistics centre.

“This project represents not just our commitment in technology, investment and sustainable growth in Australia, but a reflection of the dedication of the people behind it,” said Synnex Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) CEO Arthur Gimisis.

“It pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible in terms of coordination, planning and execution. The determination of the team and their commitment to getting every detail right was the key to success.”

The planning and construction for the new location started in 2020. During the lead up to the opening, a joint task force was formed between Synnex Group HQ, Sydney Intelligent Logistics and its Australian team to establish a “complex relocation plan”.

According to Synnex, strict safety regulations meant the team did not have physical access to the site before completion and relied on 3D simulation, real-time monitoring and Synnex’s MIS system to storyboard and coordinate each phase of the relocation.

Synnex noted that a decisive move took place over the Easter holiday period, with more than 600 containers and 7,200 pallets were relocated over the course of four days. Business then resumed without disruption on the next working day.

The opening of its new location comes weeks after the conclusion of its Synnex Alliance roadshow series of events, which wrapped up on 6 June with its Melbourne leg.
