Tech Data, a TD Synnex company’s local leadership is to be shaken up next month with the retirement of vice president and Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) country general manager Andy Berry.

Tech Data Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) vice president and A/NZ and India country general manager Sundaresan Kanappan said the distributor thanked Berry for his “outstanding contributions” during his time.

“We wish him all the best in his retirement,” he said.

Berry is set to retire on 4 July with more than 24 years of experience in high level positions, most of which were at IT companies. Prior to Tech Data, where he has worked since 2020, he was employed at Ricoh Australia for more than three years.

Before this, he also spent time at Trivium Solutions, Accenture, Fuji Xerox Australia and Xerox Global Services.

Early on during his tenure at the distributor, Berry said in 2021 he wanted to bring the “full power” of Tech Data to the local market, banking on investments made at the global level.

At the time, this involved a focus on modern data centres, clouds and next generation security, internet of things (IoT), analytics and data.

Then, in 2022, Berry said the company’s focus was on as-a-service solutions, continuous growth of cloud, multi-vendor and cross-selling solutions and security.

Later that year, the country general manager said Tech Data’s focus was on hybrid cloud, security, AI and data analytics.

Fast forward to 2024 and Tech Data’s acquisition of Orca Tech saw it step up its cyber security capabilities and resources further and ramp up its specialisation in strategic technologies.

Taking over the reins is cloud business leader Robbie Upcroft, who joined Tech Data back in 2023 and will be promoted to senior director and A/NZ country general manager from 7 July.

Before joining Tech Data, Upcroft worked at Microsoft for close to 14 years, as well as Insentra, Webroot, Arrow ECS, McAfee and Tech Pacific.

Tech Data said in a statement that both Berry and Upcroft would work together to ensure a smooth transition.

“Since joining Tech Data in 2023, Robbie’s strategic vision and leadership has brought our cloud business from strength-to-strength,” Kanappan said.

“With over two decades of industry experience, we are confident that Robbie will bring a positive impact to our A/NZ operations.”
